whilp this record sketches a much bigger space in my head than i expected. it's crisp ticks scattering across oozy wobs, tones that sound like words and might be, a sense of threat on a nice day. made me want to hop a bike and go for a ride. Favorite track: Cherry Bowl.

about

“Nothing like a dose of false hope born in a dream…”

Wake up, the technicians from Brain Cleaner have arrived and are here to administer their novel treatment program, codename Vereor Nox, specially designed to rinse your auditory cortex in a chemical bath of sounds never before heard … From the outset, “Baby Trinket” bubbles up out of the ether with spidery synths skittering nervously over swells of gurgling bass, while early highlights “Cherry Bowl" and “Imprudence” bury plangent melodic earworms in fuzzed-out blankets of reverb and granular percussion…

The album’s middle third (“Turtle Tower,” “Hey DJ!," "Hole Inthe Sky”) shifts into more dancefloor-oriented territory, channeling the frenetic machine-funk of vintage electro within a properly cosmic framework, all awash in limpid pads and intricate synth programming…

On the back end, standout track “Streaming” strips away the frayed textures and heady arrangements found elsewhere in favor of a more streamlined electro-house package soaked in melancholy, while “Don’t Be a Two-Faced Hovertoad'' dials back the BPM to embrace a foamier, more funked-out bounce that echoes classic Detroit… Closer “Fernet” takes a gothic turn with incantatory vocals over a ruminative synth refrain…
